Bloom Foundation Celebrates Inaugural Graduates of Her Skill Acquisition Program

December 23, 2025  /  Ureh Lekwauwa

ABIRIBA, December 23, 2025 – The AWCO Resource Centre at Akahaba General Hospital was a stage of celebration today as The Bloom Foundation and the Abiriba Women Cultural Organization (AWCO) proudly graduated the first cohort of their joint Skills Acquisition Program. The ceremony marked the culmination of six months of intensive training for 24 Abiriba indigenes in trades ranging from baking and catering to computer technology and beauty arts.

The event underscored a powerful message delivered by Bloom Foundation founder, Dr. Ureh Lekwauwa, in her keynote address: "Talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not." The graduating class, comprised of both women and youth, embodied the truth of this statement, transforming newfound skills into tangible pathways for economic independence and community advancement.

"Our mission has always been about unlocking potential by reshaping the conditions that hold it back," said Dr. Lekwauwa. "These graduates are not just skilled artisans; they are pioneers proving that when we invest in rural talent, we invest in national prosperity. They are the solution to the very challenges we diagnose."

The graduation received a significant endorsement from the Abia State government. The wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Maureen Aghukwa, affirmed the administration's commitment to grassroots empowerment.

"The Governor remains unshakably committed to women and youth empowerment," stated Commissioner Aghukwa. "Programs like this are the bedrock of sustainable development. When women and youth are economically empowered, families are strengthened, communities thrive, and the entire state prospers. We commend The Bloom Foundation and AWCO for this visionary partnership."

The graduates received certificates in their respective fields, with many already poised to launch small businesses or secure skilled employment within the community. The program, which covered tuition, materials, and mentorship, represents a holistic model for addressing the social determinants of health by creating dignified livelihoods.

"The future of Nigeria will be built in communities like Abiriba," Dr. Lekwauwa concluded, echoing her speech. "It will be built by young people and women who were not waiting for charity, but for opportunity. Today, we have delivered that opportunity."
