The Bloom Health Nigeria donates fully equipped inpatient unit to the Abiriba Community through ACIU
A decade of annual medical missions in Abiriba led by Dr. Ureh Lekwauwa provided more than immediate care—it provided crucial data. Analysis revealed a high burden of Hypertension, Diabetes, COPD, and Pain Conditions, alongside the profound community impact of Mental Illness. This evidence became the blueprint for our next chapter.
We began with a chronic care clinic to address these specific needs but were quickly overwhelmed by the community's demand for comprehensive care, leading us to open our doors to all. The next logical, critical step was to provide 24/7 care, and from this need, the vision for an integrated inpatient facility was born.
In a powerful partnership, the Abiriba Communal Improvement Union (ACIU) approached The Bloom Foundation with a proposal to build the structure, and our Board unanimously agreed to fund and furnish a 12-14 bed, ultra-modern inpatient wing. This collaboration extended across continents, with Novant Health System (USA) providing the medical equipment and The Bloom Foundation managing and funding its transportation to Nigeria. We further empowered the center with a reliable solar energy system and a $10,000 startup fund.
This facility is more than a building; it is the permanent embodiment of our mission, transforming a decade of outreach into a sustainable legacy of health and dignity for the Abiriba community.
